State Champs!

Winning is fun, especially if it results in a State Championship.  Morley Stanwood topped off an undefeated season with a hard fought win over Grosse Pointe Woods Liggett down at the Breslin on the Michigan State Campus.  The game featured two touted athletes facing each other.

For Morley Stanwood, it was Alexis Huntey who is already committed to George Washington University, but for Volleyball.  Earlier this year she lead her Volleyball team to a State Championship.  In this game she lead her team in scoring with 27, but more importantly swept the boards for 16 rebounds.

In Alexis post game interview with HSSS’s writer, Scott Keyes, you can see she’s still ‘suffering’ from the emotion of the game.

The other athlete in this matchup was Madison Ristoviski, number one candidate in Michigan for Miss Basketball.  She carried her team right to the last seconds of the game with 42 points.

She shot long threes from well behind the 3 point line.  She cut and slashed through the defense to lane shots and layups.  She was relentless.  The game went back and forth in the closing minutes.

During a series of time outs in the closing minutes, amazingly it was Madison who was diagramming plays on the bench.  Morgan also had two siblings playing with her on the team, Haleigh and Lola.  Lola was the second highest scorer contributing 10 points to the effort.
