The Big Race

Here’s Caleb Rhynard of Shepherd and Evan Chiplock of Heritage battling it out in the 3200 at the Shepherd Invitational Track Meet last Friday.  They raced neck and neck for the entire two miles.  Evan pulled away in the last 10 yards to earn the victory and the fastest two mile time in the state.   In fact, together they posted the top two times for the 3200 event in the state.   Evan’s time was 9:16.39 and Caleb’s was 9:17.20.

The field was made up of numerous sub ten minute runners.  The race was ‘open’.  That is, any high school runner from across the state was welcome to enter it.  There team did not have to be an official participant.  With this, 7 of the top 10 times for the 3200 (in the state) were posted at this meet!

Here’s the girls’ version of the race with Shepherd’s Teha Ames battling the front of the pack as usual!  I love the effect from shooting this race at night under the lights.

Here’s a shot from earlier in the day of Shepherd’s Lauren Snyder competing in the high jump.  This event was difficult for the participants and the judges as a strong breeze kept knocking the bar off, playing with the heads of the jumpers.

Here’s our favorite ‘putter’, ‘Puddin’. He had great hopes of breaking Shepherd’s school record this day, but scratched twice in his effort.  Not to worry, there’s plenty of season left!
